Israel Defense Forces Using Artificial Intelligence for Airstrike Targets

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) suggestions in selecting targets for airstrikes. This information has been reported by RBC, referencing Bloomberg.

The IDF has indicated that AI processes vast amounts of data, and the results are employed to determine strike targets.

Another AI model, Fire Factory, is utilized to rapidly plan subsequent attacks, making decisions based on previously validated military strike data. It can not only suggest targets but also calculate munitions loads and create timelines for strikes.

Both systems are overseen by operators who verify and approve targets suggested by the AI. However, as of now, the application of such mechanisms is not regulated by law either in Israel or internationally.

“What used to take hours now requires minutes, with a few additional minutes allocated for human verification. With the same number of people, we are doing much more,” says Colonel Uri (only the name is permitted for security reasons), who leads the IDF's digital transformation unit.

As noted by Bloomberg, the Israeli army has long integrated AI into its operations, and a variety of sources—such as drones, CCTV cameras, and satellite imagery—are now used to acquire necessary data.

The Colonel emphasized that the information obtained is highly significant.
