Iran Plans to Connect to Russian Electricity Grid via Armenia, Says Minister
Iran plans to connect to the Russian electricity grid through Armenia and Georgia, as well as exchange electrical energy with Russia through Azerbaijan, according to Mehr news agency.
Iran's Minister of Energy Ali Akbar Mehrabian stated that Tehran and Moscow will soon begin exchanging electricity through Azerbaijani territory. Subsequently, this connection will involve Armenia and Georgia.
“For the exchange of electricity with Russia, we have chosen the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Armenia-Georgia routes, and we are in the final stages of coordination and implementation,” said Mehrabian.
The Iranian minister also added that his country aims to exchange electricity with some neighbors without charge.
