Supporters of the ruling party threaten opposition figure and his family in Spitak

Supporters of the ruling party in Spitak are threatening an opposition figure and his family. This is reported by the daily newspaper 'Aravot'.

“They were exerting political pressure, sending threatening messages regarding my family. After discussing my illegal dismissal in the media, they unexpectedly resorted to force. They invited me for a conversation, wanted to use violence, threatened my family, and again tried to intimidate me into not communicating with the media regarding these issues,” Samvel Khoyetsyan, the former head of the Spitak territorial division of the State Food Safety Service, recounted in an interview with 'Aravot' about what happened to him.

“The situation has escalated to physical altercations, and there are records of the incidents in health institutions, but the law enforcement agencies have ignored the situation, turning a blind eye to what has occurred. Samvel Khoyetsyan does not disclose names, saying he recognizes the perpetrators by their faces; they are members or supporters of the ruling Civil Contract party. In response to all his questions and objections, the strangers who invited him for a conversation only replied: ‘You have no right to oppose the authorities, stay wise, think about your family and your safety.’

“I warned them that they were doing something wrong; everything in my actions has been lawful. I have always acted correctly and lawfully, and both the collective and society have always been satisfied because I have always fought for the law and just solutions. However, they cannot reconcile with the fact that you have opposed them and demanded justice legally. What I am saying is that you are wrong to dismiss me from my job; you had no right to do so. I am a civil servant protected by law. What are they complaining about? They are dealing with human rights; isn’t it a democratic state as declared by the government? Is this their version of a democratic state?” Samvel Khoyetsyan elaborated.

According to our interlocutor, the outcome of all this unequivocally leads to the conclusion that the persecution is political,” the newspaper writes.
