Pashinyan and Aliyev to Meet Tomorrow for 6th Trilateral Talks, EU Official Says

The sixth trilateral meeting between European Council President Charles Michel, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will take place in Brussels on July 15. This meeting will focus on the entire agenda regarding the normalization of relations between Baku and Yerevan, an EU official informed journalists, according to Interfax.

“This process has been ongoing for almost two years. We believe that cooperation at the leaders' level is necessary to promote peaceful resolution and prevent escalation of the conflict. All agenda items will be discussed during the negotiations,” he stated.

According to him, this includes “humanitarian issues, border demarcation, a peace treaty, the rights and security of Karabakh Armenians, and communications.” He also specifically highlighted the discussion of “humanitarian issues concerning the Armenians of Karabakh.”

The EU official reminded that, in addition to the five previous trilateral meetings with the European Council president and the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia, there have also been two meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron, one of which took place on June 1 in Chisinau, in a five-party format with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz participating.

Earlier, Pashinyan announced the upcoming trilateral meeting during a government session. He expressed hope that progress could be made in the negotiations regarding the peace agreement between Yerevan and Baku. It has already been reported that Pashinyan and Aliyev are now in Brussels, where a meeting between Aliyev and Michel is underway.
