Will the Car Import Business End Up in the Hands of a Few Oligarchs? Badassian 'Has Taken an Eye Instead of an Eyebrow'
The newspaper "Hraparak" reports: "We had written that today, on July 13, the Civil Contract Party summoned the head of the State Revenue Committee, Rustam Badassian, and the head of the Investigative Committee, Argishti Karamyan, to a closed meeting regarding car importers. However, we learned yesterday that Karamyan refused to attend, citing work overload as a reason, which means the meeting will not take place. Instead, the head of the SRC has submitted a legislative amendment for public discussion, and those at the Civil Contract Party are eagerly waiting to see when it will go to the National Assembly for rejection.
The issue is that the Civil Contract Party believes that the Badassian-Karamyan tandem is engaged in state racketeering and is using criminal cases to create delays in the process of returning the VAT to car importers. We have addressed this topic before. The purpose of the law proposed by the SRC is to set limits on VAT offsets (reductions) for imports made by organizations or individual entrepreneurs that are not distributors or dealers of light passenger car manufacturers."
In other words, if the proposal becomes law, VAT will only be returned to car dealers and their branches. Those in the Civil Contract Party believe that this will encourage the creation of monopolies in the sector, and the car import business will end up in the hands of a few oligarchs."
