VIDEO: 'The authorities are armed, let the people arm themselves' – A member of the ruling party on the free sale of weapons
I support the free sale of weapons and the expansion of its opportunities, as life has shown that the free sale of weapons provides much more democratic opportunities for society. This was stated today, on July 13, during the extraordinary session of the National Assembly by Hakob Aslanyan, a member of the Civil Contract faction, while discussing the package of amendments and changes to the law on 'Regulation of the Circulation of Weapons' and the law on 'State Duties.'
“My reasoning is as follows: the entire society consists of the people, the authorities, and the criminal world. Authorities, whether they want it or not, are armed, the criminal world is armed, and the people are not, which is why everything falls upon the heads of the people. We must be able to restore this balance. Secondly, when we do not allow a person to arm themselves, we deprive them of the right to self-defense. A person has the right to self-defense, and the state is not always standing next to the person. For instance, if a person goes alone and hungry dogs may attack them and eat them, they are deprived of self-defense.
In general, if the people are armed, the authorities will take the people who have given them power much more seriously,” said the ruling party member.
It should be noted that according to the draft, “In particular, there is a need to extend the provisions of the law on the regulation of the circulation of weapons to include ammunition and the main components of firearms, since the current regulations lack provisions related to ammunition and the main components of firearms in certain articles, which creates obstacles in the practical application of the law.
Additionally, for the first time, citizens acquiring civilian firearms are required to take theoretical and practical examinations on knowledge of safety rules related to weapons from one of the government-guaranteed military sports public organizations, whereas such organizations do not exist at the moment. Therefore, it is planned to conduct these examinations in accordance with the procedure established by the authorized body of the public administration in the field of internal affairs.
