US Treats Ukraine as Source for International Adoption of Children, Russian Foreign Ministry Says

Washington's demonstrative concern regarding the situation of children in the zone of special military operations is tied to the fact that the United States regards Ukraine as a source for international adoption of children. This was announced by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

According to a statement published on the Russian Foreign Ministry's website, "Washington's demonstrative concern regarding the situation of children in the zone of special military operations is connected to the fact that US authorities have viewed Ukraine as one of the main sources for international adoption of children."

The Russian diplomatic mission added that the attempts by the US to present itself as the 'main protector of children's rights' are neither legally substantiated nor practically proven.

The Russian Foreign Ministry reminded that the adoption process in the United States is not transparent, is corrupt, and is subjected to political neo-colonial conjuncture.

“It is regrettable that there have been numerous gross violations of the rights of Russian minors during the adoption process by US citizens,” the Russian Foreign Ministry stated.

The Russian Foreign Ministry also clarified that this practice has been banned since 2013. The Russian diplomatic mission noted that the issue of violations of children's rights in the international adoption process in the United States is presented in a relevant report.
