The Civil Contract Party Removes Taguhi Tovmasyan from Committee Chair Position
The Civil Contract Party has stripped Taguhi Tovmasyan of her position as the chair of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Human Rights Protection and Public Affairs with a vote of 62 in favor and 1 against.
It is noteworthy that the opposition groups, including the 'Armenia' and 'Honorary' factions, did not participate in the discussion and voting regarding the termination of Tovmasyan's powers.
Earlier, the Civil Contract faction had introduced a draft in the National Assembly to terminate the powers of the head of the Standing Committee on Human Rights Protection and Public Affairs, Taguhi Tovmasyan. It is also important to recall that the process to express no confidence in Tovmasyan was announced months ago by Civil Contract MP Hovik Agazaryan.
The basis for removing Tovmasyan from her position was her failure to announce a break during a heated verbal exchange between ruling party deputies and Edgar Ghazaryan regarding the discussion of the Human Rights Defender candidates. She did not urge Edgar Ghazaryan to apologize for referring to the 2018 regime change as Azerbaijani-Turkish.
