NATO Makes Statements Regarding Russia, China, and Iran

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced that allies have adopted "the most comprehensive defense plan since the end of the Cold War," according to a report by Reuters citing the North Atlantic Alliance's press service.

"Regional new programs aimed at countering the Alliance's two main threats—Russia and terrorism—envision the presence of 300,000 military personnel at a high readiness level, including significant combat power of the air force and navy. Allies also confirmed a new action plan for defense production aimed at accelerating joint procurement, increasing production capacities, and enhancing interoperability among allies," the NATO press service stated.

To meet their defense needs, allies have firmly committed to investing at least 2% of their gross domestic product (GDP) in the defense sector. NATO allies also discussed "the challenges posed by China to Euro-Atlantic security and values."

"China is not our adversary, and we must continue our cooperation," the NATO Secretary General emphasized, noting, however, that "Beijing's growing assertiveness affects our security and poses a challenge to the rules-based international order." On Tuesday, NATO allies announced that they are seriously concerned about "Iran's malign activities within allied territories" and called on Tehran to "cease military support to Russia, including the provision of drones," as reported by Reuters.
