‘Khachatryan is spreading false information for political reasons’ – Office of the Prime Minister of Armenia
The former deputy head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Tiran Khachatryan, periodically presents claims through the media that are not only unfounded but also seemingly aim to mislead the public. This is the response from the Office of the Prime Minister of Armenia regarding Khachatryan's statement that there were instances where the army asked for funding from the government, yet the government rejected these requests.
The press office of the Prime Minister's Office released this response via Armenpress. 'Khachatryan's false claims that the government has not allocated funds to meet the army's needs and to carry out priority acquisitions are utterly detached from reality. The evidently false information disseminated by the former deputy chief of the General Staff is solely for political reasons. It is at least strange that in several instances, his claims contradict public statements made by his former superior, the former chief of the General Staff, Onik Gasparyan,' the response from the Prime Minister's Office stated.
It was noted that Tiran Khachatryan is trying to create the impression with unfounded claims that the normal development of the armed forces has been obstructed due to the government's insufficient allocations. The Prime Minister's Office reminded that from 2018 to the beginning of the 44-day war in 2020, the government allocated about 608 billion drams for the purchase of weapons and military equipment. For comparison, during the period from January 1, 2008, to May 2018, previous governments of Armenia spent 354 billion drams for the same purpose.
