I Will Not Attend Today’s National Assembly Session, I Am Incapacitated: Tovmasyan on Discussion of Related Bill
Opposition MP Taguhi Tovmasyan will not participate in the discussion of the bill concerning her dismissal as the chair of the National Assembly's Permanent Commission on Human Rights and Public Issues. Tovmasyan announced this on her Facebook page, stating, “I will not attend today’s National Assembly session (I am incapacitated until July 15). The bill concerning me will be discussed in gross violation of my right to be heard and to convey my words to voters from the National Assembly podium.”
It is known that the leader of the Civil Contract faction in the National Assembly, Hayk Konjoryan, and the faction’s secretary, Arthur Hovhannisyan, have submitted a proposal to the Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan regarding the cessation of Tovmasyan's powers as the chair of the Permanent Commission on Human Rights and Public Issues. The faction’s leader and secretary justify their proposal by pointing to Tovmasyan's inadequate performance or non-performance of her duties as the chair of the aforementioned commission. Specifically, they indicate that the opposition MP has participated in only 8 out of 46 meetings of the National Assembly Council, thus failing to fulfill her responsibilities as chair.
Taguhi Tovmasyan was elected as the chair of the mentioned commission on July 8, 2021.
