Civil Contract Party Will Not Nominate a Candidate in Place of Taguhi Tovmasyan, Will Consider Any Candidate from the Opposition

The draft to terminate the powers of the Chair of the Permanent Commission on Human Rights of the National Assembly was presented today, on July 11, during the extraordinary session of the National Assembly by CP member Hovik Aghazaryan.

He stated that despite the fact that according to the "Regulation on the National Assembly," the candidates for the commission’s chair are proposed by the opposition factions, the right to initiate the termination of his powers is granted to all factions.

According to Aghazaryan, Taguhi Tovmasyan did not attend 36 out of the 46 sessions of the National Assembly council and obstructed the work of the commission.

The representatives of the Civil Contract Party proceeded to a closed secret voting on the issue, which will be held in a room adjacent to the National Assembly hall. It is noteworthy that the opposition factions “Armenia” and “I Have Honor” boycotted the session.

He stated, “The Civil Contract faction aims to elect a chair of the commission in the future with the adoption of the National Assembly decision on the termination of MP Taguhi Tovmasyan’s powers in the Permanent Commission on Human Rights and Public Affairs, who will properly fulfill his duties and, at the same time, participate in council meetings, where according to the first part of Article 27 of the constitutional law on the regulation of the National Assembly, the chairs of the permanent committees are included by virtue of their office.”
