Emma Poghosyan Becomes Double Champion at European Youth Weightlifting Championship
The ongoing Weightlifting European Championship for youth M15 and M17 in Chisinau, Moldova, has seen Armenia secure a total of 9 medals in the overall competition, including 5 gold medals.
On July 9, 16-year-old Emma Poghosyan became a double champion at the European Youth Championships. Competing in the 81 kg weight category, Emma won a gold medal in the total with a combined lift of 225 kg (96+129 kg). Additionally, she received small gold medals in the snatch and clean and jerk categories. Notably, while holding a 129 kg barbell overhead during the clean and jerk, Emma Poghosyan set a new European record for athletes under 17.
Emma had also claimed victory at the European Youth Championships in 2022 in the under 15 category. On the final day of competition, July 10, fellow Armenian athletes Rustam Saharyan, Ashot Margaryan (both competing at 102 kg), and Gagik Mkrtchyan (+102 kg) will take to the platform.
