The White House on the War with Russia

U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan stated in a press briefing that the United States will not abandon its fundamental principles of not getting involved in a war with Russia.

He emphasized that U.S. President Joe Biden established two fundamental principles at the very beginning of the Ukraine conflict, which are not in question. First, the U.S. is not at war with Russia in Ukraine, and second, the U.S. is not providing Ukrainian troops with weapons that they could use to strike Russian territory.

Sullivan added that these principles remain in effect today and will continue to do so in the future.

Ukraine has yet to meet the requirements for joining NATO. The U.S. presidential advisor mentioned that allies will show support for Ukraine at the Vilnius summit. “When Putin started this war, he expected that the unity of the West would break, NATO would splinter, and support for Ukraine would fade over time. He was wrong,” he stated.

“We stand with the Ukrainians who are fighting for their freedom and independence. In Vilnius, President Biden will present a vision that will address modern challenges, including Russian aggression and climate change,” Sullivan added.
