Erdogan Announces When Vladimir Putin Will Visit Turkey
Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced during a press conference in Istanbul that Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit his country in August. Erdogan's remarks were cited by CNN Turk.
“Mr. Putin’s visit to Turkey will take place in the coming month, and we will again be able to discuss the topic of prisoner exchanges face to face,” Erdogan stated at a press conference following talks with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky.
Erdogan added that they also plan to discuss extending the grain deal. He later mentioned that a personal meeting with Putin could happen “within the next two months.”
It is notable that Zelensky's visit to Istanbul took place on July 7. The two leaders discussed the military conflict in Ukraine, the grain deal, the exchange of prisoners with Russia, as well as Ukraine's potential NATO membership.
As a result of the negotiations, Erdogan announced at a joint press conference that Ukraine deserves to be a NATO member.
Additionally, it was previously reported that Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov did not rule out that a meeting between President Putin and President Erdogan might take place soon, although he did not specify when.
