Serzh Sargsyan Considers Vartan Oskanian's Proposal Realistic

The current situation in the country is not hopeless and can change if the negotiators do, stated the third President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, during a conversation with journalists after a court session involving him and others. He addressed the opportunities regarding the Artsakh issue.

“I listened carefully to Vartan Oskanian’s proposals yesterday. I believe they are logical. What Vartan Oskanian is suggesting is achievable. Of course, the situation is tough, there are many difficulties, and the problems are significant, but I do not think it is hopeless,” the former president said.

According to Sargsyan, the best solution to the current situation would be a change of power. However, he added that if there is an agreement for diplomats to work under Oskanian's leadership while others remain silent, that could also be a way out. “Although I do not believe that these people are capable of reaching such an agreement,” Sargsyan added.

When asked if there are other diplomats he envisions in that group besides Oskanian, the third president preferred not to respond, stating that the proposal belongs to Vartan Oskanian himself, and he will suggest diplomats.

It is recalled that former Minister of Foreign Affairs Vartan Oskanian had proposed that if he and a group of diplomats were allowed to enter negotiations, they could implement a significant change in the negotiation process within 2-3 months, making it much more favorable for Armenia. However, there was a prerequisite: during that time, Pashinyan should refrain from speaking for 2-3 months.
