Joe Biden Approves Delivery of Cluster Munitions to Ukraine
US President Joe Biden has approved the delivery of cluster munitions to Ukraine. This was reported by The Washington Post. It has been revealed that the Pentagon's stockpiles and details regarding the supply will be announced today.
Cluster munitions, which are banned in more than 120 countries globally, typically release a large quantity of small, explosive ordnance that spreads over a wide area.
It is noteworthy that earlier, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Russia, Ukraine, and Eurasia, Laura Cooper, stated that the US believes the use of cluster munitions would be beneficial in terms of effectiveness on the battlefield.
Furthermore, the 2008 treaty prohibiting the production, use, and stockpiling of cluster munitions has been agreed upon by 123 countries, including most NATO members. The US, Russia, and Ukraine have declined to join the agreement.
