Even if Samvel Babayan goes and negotiates, he will instantly understand what Azerbaijan wants: Babayan

Russia must fulfill its obligations under the November 9 declaration. This is the demand made in a letter sent days ago to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Stepanakert demands that Russia meets its obligations. Davit Babayan, an advisor to the President of the Republic of Artsakh, stated this in an interview with Tert.am.

“What can we do, who can we turn to? The world doesn’t care. Nowhere is it written that these checkpoints should be placed in the Lachin corridor, that the corridor should be closed. There is also nothing written that Artsakh should be locked up and subjected to torture. Such points are not included in the declaration; therefore, Russia must fulfill its obligations, not push us into Azerbaijan,” said the presidential advisor, expressing confidence that Azerbaijan is not ready for dialogue with Artsakh while they feel like the victorious side and show disdain towards the Armenian people.

“In their perspective, they even present Yerevan as Azerbaijan. We’ve reached this point. Meanwhile, Heydar Aliyev used to address the authorities of Artsakh officially, writing ‘Republic of Artsakh,’” he recalled.

Davit Babayan does not believe that conflicting opinions are circulating among various figures in Artsakh. Regarding the statement made by the leader of the ‘United Homeland’ party, former Secretary of the Security Council, and former commander of the Defense Army, Samvel Babayan, that Stepanakert and Baku should engage in direct dialogue, Babayan responded:

“What should we talk about, how do we join them, what are they allowing us? If there are people who think this can be done, the practice shows otherwise. In 1996-1997, they didn’t want to sit with us and negotiate; are they going to negotiate now? Even if Samvel Babayan goes and negotiates with Baku, he will instantly understand what Azerbaijan wants. Perhaps Mr. Babayan thinks he can take Artsakh out of this difficult situation through dialogue, but personally, I think that’s impossible.”
