Azerbaijani NGOs Send Open Letter to Nikol Pashinyan
More than 20 Azerbaijani non-governmental organizations have sent an open letter to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan. This has been reported by Azerbaijani news outlets.
According to the NGOs, in the letter they demand the cessation of mining operations. They argue that this is a violation of international environmental norms and standards, as well as the rights of the local population in the region.
“Mr. Prime Minister, we, the undersigned civil society organizations operating in the Republic of Azerbaijan, are writing to express our deep concern regarding the serious ecological crisis caused by mining operations in the Republic of Armenia. This disrupts environmental sustainability in the South Caucasus,” the open letter states.
It should be noted that the open letter is quite extensive, however, Auroranews has presented the main ideas.
It is also significant that the “concerned” in the open letter emphasize that the exploitation of the mines is adversely affecting the health of the residents of Syunik and violates their rights. They seem to create the impression that the Azerbaijanis, filled with hatred towards Armenians, care more about the health of the Syunik residents than we, the Armenians do.
