VIDEO: "Armenia has Taken No Written or Verbal Corridor Obligations," Says Pashinyan

“Our response to this entire situation should be continuous diplomatic work. No matter how difficult it is morally, politically, or emotionally, we must not lose our self-control in any case,” stated Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during today’s Cabinet meeting.

According to him, Azerbaijan continues to accuse Armenia of not fulfilling its obligations to ensure transportation links through its territory, with ambiguous interpretations regarding corridors. “I am forced to repeat: Armenia has taken no written or verbal corridor obligations and will never accept any such interpretations,” he emphasized.

As proof of this statement, Pashinyan referred to the November 9, 2020 statement, saying, “Regarding the unblocking of regional communications under the sovereignty and jurisdiction of countries, we have repeatedly stated that we are ready for this. A long time ago, a draft decision by the Armenian government was officially submitted, which envisages the establishment of three checkpoints on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border by us. This decision is not being accepted due to Azerbaijan’s destructive approach, which does not even foresee a similar process and does not want to provide a route for Armenia.”

Pashinyan stated that Azerbaijan exhibits such an approach because it has not renounced its 30-year policy of blockading Armenia.

The Prime Minister also addressed Azerbaijani accusations directed at Armenia concerning landmines. He reminded that the International Court of Justice has refuted those accusations against Armenia. “Moreover, to demonstrate its sincerity and determination in resolving relations, the Armenian side transferred maps of minefields in all territories under its control over the past years, which are currently being used for extensive demining work in Azerbaijan. In response, Azerbaijan has not taken any equivalent steps and continues to illegally hold Armenian prisoners of war, using them as a bargaining chip,” he noted.

Pashinyan emphasized that despite the challenging situation, there is no alternative to implementing the peace agenda.
