Macron: Social Networks May Be Shut Down During Crisis in France

French President Emmanuel Macron has not ruled out the possibility of shutting down social networks in the event of escalating crises in the country. He made this statement during a conversation with the mayors of cities affected by unrest, as reported by BFMTV.

Macron emphasized the need to consider the use of social networks among young people and to discuss potential restrictions. The president highlighted that if the situation worsens, there should be a capability to regulate social media and even disconnect them. Furthermore, Macron pointed out that discussions on this issue should not take place during a "hot moment."

Earlier reports indicated that during six days of unrest in France, police detained 3,625 individuals, including 1,124 minors. So far, 380 decisions for detention have been made, and this figure is not final.

The protests in France began on the evening of June 27 following the police shooting of a 17-year-old teenager in one of the suburbs of Paris. They escalated into clashes with law enforcement, vandalism of stores and shopping centers, and looting.
