Luis Enrique Becomes Head Coach of PSG

Former Spain national team coach Luis Enrique has taken over as head coach of French club Paris Saint-Germain. He replaces Christophe Galtier, under whom the team won the championship last season. This was announced on PSG's official website.

Luis Enrique's contract is set for two years. “I am happy to come to Paris to gain new experience here. It is always interesting to meet new people, live in a new city, learn a new language, and most importantly, to coach PSG,” Enrique's words are quoted by the club's press service.

The 53-year-old Luis Enrique left the position of head coach of the Spain national team after an unsuccessful performance at the World Cup in Qatar. Previously, in 2020, Enrique took the Spain national team to the semi-finals of the European Championship, where they lost to Italy.

Luis Enrique is the fourth coach of PSG in the last five years, following Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino, and Galtier, the latter having worked at the club for the entire last season. He became embroiled in a high-profile scandal late last week. Galtier was taken into police custody on suspicion of racist actions that allegedly took place even before moving to the capital, while working with the Nice team.
