FSB Learns to Monitor Telegram Users' Activities

The Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB) has learned to monitor user activity on messengers such as Telegram, WhatsApp, and Signal, as reported by The New York Times.

According to NYT, one of the software programs can detect when people make voice calls or send files through encrypted apps like Telegram, Signal, and WhatsApp. “The program cannot eavesdrop on specific messages, but it can detect if someone is using multiple phones,” the article states.

Another function of the software is the creation of a map based on user communication, tracking interactions with other individuals, as well as identifying all connected phones. According to the newspaper's description, it is user-friendly software that connects directly to telecommunications infrastructure. NYT claims to have received hundreds of files regarding the software from an individual who had access to internal records.
