French Police Demand Stricter Measures Against Rioters
Police unions in France have called for stricter measures against participants in the ongoing riots, as reported by BILD. “Today, police officers are involved in combat operations, because we are in a state of war. Asking for calm is no longer sufficient in the face of these wild crowds; we need to take action. Our colleagues, like the majority of citizens, are fed up with the suffering imposed by these aggressive minorities,” stated a press release from the Alliance Police Nationale and Unsa Police unions.
The call for action against “harmful elements” has sparked heated criticism and debate across France. Parisian police have been authorized to monitor and document traffic on public roads in Paris and certain suburbs using drones until Monday morning, according to a statement on the agency’s Twitter account.
It is noteworthy that mass riots have been ongoing in France for the fifth consecutive day. The unrest began after a police officer fatally shot a 17-year-old boy who reportedly did not comply with the officer's lawful orders.
