Ombudsman Receives Lawyer Karen Alaverdyan Who Was Subjected to Violence

The Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Anahit Manasyan, received lawyer Karen Alaverdyan today, June 30. This was reported by the Ombudsman’s office.

“Earlier, information was circulated indicating that violence had been committed against lawyer Karen Alaverdyan at the Central Division of the Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Following this incident, the Ombudsman initiated a discussion procedure. Corresponding letters have been addressed to the Prosecutor General's Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia, demanding a detailed and comprehensive investigation into the circumstances of the mentioned incident.

During the meeting, the lawyer expressed his concerns regarding the criminal proceedings, including the need to ensure timely conduct of the preliminary investigation. Based on the additional information presented, necessary measures will be taken within the framework of the Ombudsman’s powers.
