This Year We Will No Longer Have the Familiar "GAZELs" in Yerevan: Pashinyan
The Yerevan City Hall will acquire 180 buses instead of 150. This was announced today, June 29, during a cabinet meeting by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
“Previously, we had acquired 150 buses within the framework of the contract, but the Yerevan City Hall and our partners worked on an additional contract with the contractors, and now, without any changes to the pricing, we are acquiring 180 buses instead of 150, meaning an additional 30 buses are being added within the same decision,” Pashinyan stated.
He also recalled that the Civil Contract party promised back in 2017 that they would rid Yerevan of the “desperate gazelles” and “death elevators.” “Today, this has not been fully realized, but work is being done at a very fast pace, and if I’m not mistaken, this year we will no longer have the familiar ‘GAZELs’ in Yerevan’s public transport network, and they will be replaced with an entirely new bus fleet,” Pashinyan said.
The Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure noted that they are approaching a crucial phase for making key decisions for Yerevan's transportation system, for which preparations were necessary. “This entire fleet needed to be in place so that we could completely review both the entire network and the ticketing system, and so on. And it should be noted that this is being done,” he added.
