What Will the Launch of the Yeraskh-Horadiz Railway Provide? An Explanation from a Cartographer
RA Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan recently stated that there is a crucial consensus among the parties that the unblocking process begins with the re-commissioning of the Yeraskh-Horadiz railway. What will the operation of this railway provide to the parties? Cartographer Ruben Galichyan provides the answer. This is reported by the 'Iravunk' newspaper.
— If this railway is indeed re-activated, a train will travel from Yerevan to Julfa, which is the border with Iran, in 3 hours. In that case, our cargo transportation with Iran will be much more tranquil and cheaper. The same line could be extended to connect with Kapan, meaning we could get to Kapan from Yerevan in just 3.5 hours.
Moreover, the operation of the railway will provide Azerbaijan with the opportunity for this line to pass through southern Armenia, near Meghri, thereby allowing Azerbaijan to connect with Nakhchivan.
It is also important that the Deputy Prime Minister clarified that the road will be controlled by the laws of the country it passes through and will belong to that country. In other words, we can travel from Yerevan to Yeraskh, enter Azerbaijani territory near Yeraskh, and then proceed to Julfa to connect with Iran.
