Quran Burned in Sweden
On the day of Kurban Bayram, the Quran was burned in Sweden. This was reported by RIA Novosti, citing France Press.
It is reported that the Swedish police allowed the Quran to be burned at a mosque in Stockholm coinciding with the start of Kurban Bayram. The Stockholm police also called for reinforcements in the event of disturbances.
In January, a similar action near the Turkish embassy in Sweden sparked several days of protests and led to a freeze on the country's NATO membership application.
Kurban Bayram (Festival of Sacrifice) is a Muslim holiday that marks the end of Hajj. It is celebrated in commemoration of the sacrifice of the prophet Ibrahim. During the holiday, Muslims are expected to purify themselves and wear clean and festive clothing.
