Police Discover Vehicle with Fake U.S. Embassy License Plates
On June 27, operational information was received at the Malatia Division of the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs Police and the Yerevan city unit of the Patrol Service regarding a BMW X5 vehicle circulating in Yerevan with counterfeit diplomatic license plates. According to the photojournalist, the patrol officers of the 3rd platoon of the 4th battalion of the Yerevan unit located the aforementioned BMW X5 in the Shengavit administrative district. Subsequently, officers from the criminal investigation department of the Malatia Division apprehended the driver on suspicion of forgery and took him to the Malatia Police Department.
At the scene, the driver, 42-year-old Karen Petrosyan, a resident of Yerevan, stated that the fake license plates of the U.S. Embassy, numbered '01 D 011 AM', were in the trunk of his vehicle.
A legal proceeding has been initiated regarding the incident. The vehicle has been moved to a secured area of the Yerevan Patrol Service battalion.
