Turkish Media Holdings Cut Ties with Reuters After Article on Erdogan's Son
Turkish media holdings Albayrak and TürkMedya announced on Tuesday that they are severing their contracts with the British news agency Reuters following an article that made 'unfounded accusations' against Turkey's President Tayyip Erdogan and his son, Bilal.
The head of Erdogan's Communications Directorate, Fahrettin Altun, stated that the mentioned Reuters article discusses Bilal Erdogan's alleged financial dealings with a Swedish company and a 'corruption scheme.'
Previously, Ankara has repeatedly accused Reuters of spreading unreliable and false news about the country.
Albayrak Media Holding includes the Yeni Şafak newspaper, TVNET television channel, and several other media outlets. The TürkMedya holding, which also announced the termination of its contract with Reuters, operates the Akşam and Star newspapers, as well as the 24tv and tv360 television channels.
