8 Men and a 46-Year-Old Woman Verbally Abused and Assaulted Police Officers; Charges Filed Against 3 Individuals
In the Avan district of Yerevan, a 46-year-old female driver of a Suzuki vehicle and eight other individuals intervened in the lawful activities of police officers, verbally abusing and assaulting them. This information was reported by the press service of the Investigative Committee of Armenia.
The investigation revealed that on June 6, 2023, at approximately 00:45, two police officers stopped the Suzuki vehicle and requested the 46-year-old driver, a resident of Yerevan, to present the vehicle's technical passport and her driver's license. The woman failed to provide these documents, refused to allow identification, and did not possess a passport, providing false information to the officers.
Subsequently, the woman allowed herself to be identified, at which point it was discovered that she did not have a driver's license, was driving with a fake registration plate, and lacked a valid mandatory insurance and technical inspection.
It was noted that before the officers could issue reports, eight men, who were inebriated, approached and verbally abused the police officers. When the officers attempted to arrest four of the men, the 46-year-old woman exited her vehicle, insulted, and physically assaulted one of the officers. During this incident, the body camera attached to the mentioned officer went missing.
Based on sufficient evidence collected, the 46-year-old woman was charged under Article 452 (Interference in the Lawful Professional or Political Activities of an Official) Part 3 and Article 297 (Hooliganism) Part 2, Clause 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. Charges were also filed against two of the aforementioned men for hooliganism.
As a measure of restraint, a prohibition against leaving the country was imposed on the 46-year-old woman and one of the men, while the other man was released on bail. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
