The Process of Filling Teacher Vacancies Remains Problematic, Says Minister of Education

The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Zhanna Andreasyan, has announced that the process of filling teacher vacancies in the education sector continues to be problematic.

Today, while presenting the draft amendments to the Law on General Education in the National Assembly, she stated that she is proposing two mechanisms aimed at addressing the shortage of teachers.

“The first is the expansion of the possibility for teachers to be dispatched. We propose to allow teachers to be dispatched not only to border and high mountainous areas, but also to other regions, which will enable more effective organization of the process of filling vacant teacher positions.

The second proposal is to allow students studying under the teacher qualification program (in their final year of education) to teach in rural schools under the guidance of a mentor teacher. This will provide valuable practice for those aspiring to become teachers and will also help ensure the teaching of subjects that are currently a challenge to provide in schools,” said the Minister.

Previously, Minister Andreasyan had noted that there are over 1,300 teachers in the system who hold vocational education credentials but continue to work in schools. These individuals will no longer be able to work in schools starting from August 20.
