Political Shift in Akhuryan: Three Council Members Leave Ruling Team

Members of the Akhuryan community council in Shirak Province, Samson Hovhannisyan and Aristakes Chaloyan, have submitted letters to the mayor, Artzrun Igityan, announcing their departure from the "Akhuryan" alliance. Another council member, Manuk Arakelyan, has submitted his resignation from the "Victory" alliance, as reported by News.am.

In an interview with the media, the mayor mentioned that the three council members expressed their intention to remain independent members of the council.

It is notable that the power in Akhuryan was formed through a coalition of the "Victory" and "Akhuryan" alliances. Artzrun Igityan received 14 votes, while the candidate from the "Civil Contract" party, Albert Ayvazyan, received 13 votes.

According to Artzrun Igityan, the "Civil Contract" party is currently focused on eliminating council members:

"From the day of the election, the Civil Contract party has made consistent efforts to poach council members. The tension in the community is created by the Civil Contract, the regional governor, and the MP Karen Sarukhanyan. They cannot tolerate differing opinions or factions. They do not even respect the will and choice of the people. They want their nominee to be the leader, and I do not yield to them, nor do I align with their candidate, so they are unhappy with me. They are doing everything they can to get rid of me. They are attempting to disrupt sessions so we can head to new elections. My coalition is ready for new elections, but assessing their strength, they are now taking another path by pressuring council members to leave our faction."
