Neighboring Countries Strengthen Borders with Russia and Belarus After Prigozhin's Rebellion

Neighboring countries of Belarus are reassessing their border security measures following the news that the head of the Russian private military company Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin, will be sent to this country after the rebellion in Russia. This was reported by Euronews.

Specifically, the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Poland inspected the troops in the country's northeast near the Kaliningrad region and the Belarusian border. “We have strengthened the borders with Belarus and the Kaliningrad region. We are aware of the threats and are responding with anticipation of attacks. After all, we have been dealing with a hybrid assault on the Polish border for two years. Polish army troops are stationed at the border, thus reinforcing the security of our homeland,” said Poland’s Minister of Defense Mariusz Błaszczak.

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda also stated that NATO should “strengthen” its eastern flank if Belarus intends to grant asylum to Yevgeny Prigozhin and his troops. NATO’s new member Finland is also monitoring the situation closely.

“The situation is delicate; anything can happen. We continue to monitor the situation very carefully,” said Finland’s Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen.

It is noteworthy that on June 24, the Wagner group began a rebellion, entering Rostov-on-Don during the night, and then moved towards Moscow, but did not reach the capital. On the evening of June 24, Yevgeny Prigozhin stated that they were “leaving the field camps according to plan.”
