Legislation Proposed in Russia's State Duma to Regulate PMC Activities

The chairman of the Defense Committee of the State Duma of Russia, Andrei Kartapolov, has stated that Russia needs to draft a law that will regulate the activities of private military companies (PMCs). This was reported by 'Vedomosti'.

The MP noted that the fate of the 'Wagner' PMC has yet to be determined. 'First, we need to decide what will happen to it, what divisions will remain. Will they remain at all or not? What will they be called? To whom will they report? After all, besides the units that are in the special operation zone, there are also employees of the structure in other locations,' Kartapolov said.

Lawmakers do not plan to ban the activities of PMCs. 'Why ban it? Ultimately, all questions rest with their leader. Joseph Stalin said, ‘Children are not responsible for their parents.’ Whoever has engaged in rebellion must be held accountable,' he added.

It should be noted that the relationship between the 'Wagner' military group and the Russian Ministry of Defense has soured. Putin's former chef and leader of 'Wagner', Prigozhin, has claimed that Defense Minister Shoigu has decided to destroy his group. He has called on people to rise up and put an end to Shoigu’s 'lawlessness.'
