Armenia and Azerbaijan Continue to Have Disagreements on Key Issues of the Peace Agreement: Rubin yan
The anticipated peace agreement is still shrouded in disagreements between Armenia and Azerbaijan on key issues. This was stated by Ruben Rubinyan, Vice President of the National Assembly of Armenia, during a press conference addressing expectations for negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan scheduled for June 27 in Washington.
"We expect progress. Armenia's position is that we want a text of the peace agreement that aligns with our interests and is feasible for signing. Naturally, the process is complicated, and there are issues where disagreements persist. There are also questions where agreements have already been reached. But on the main issues, disagreements still remain," said Rubinyan.
He expressed hope that it might be possible to bring the positions closer through several more steps.
Rubinyan does not believe that there is no agreement regarding sovereignty and authority in the context of unblocking. "I have the impression that there is agreement on that point. The other issue is that this agreement has not yet been documented on paper, and I hope it will be," he stated.
The Vice President of the National Assembly added that Armenia needs to have a peace agreement that serves its interests as quickly as possible. There are three fundamental points for the Armenian side: first, to place a specific map at the foundation of mutual recognition of territorial integrity; second, addressing the rights and security of the people of Artsakh, which we believe should take place through dialogue between Baku and Stepanakert with international mechanisms; third, the institution of guarantees," said Rubinyan.
He noted that agreements reached with Azerbaijan, for example, the statement of November 9, have been violated.
