Samuel Babayan 'Principally Does Not Oppose' the Proposal to Establish a State Defense Committee in Artsakh
Samuel Babayan is 'principally not opposed' to the proposal to establish a State Defense Committee in Artsakh and to join it, as suggested by Arthur Tovmasyan.
'Guided by the motivation and purpose of overcoming the crisis in Artsakh, Samuel Babayan is ready to discuss the powers and functions of the body to be created,' the statement said.
It is worth recalling that during the May 18 session of the Artsakh Parliament, the Chairman Arthur Tovmasyan made a statement addressing the country's President Arayik Harutyunyan. He particularly noted: 'Mr. President, I have never interfered in your affairs, you have not interfered in the affairs of the National Assembly. I have proposed a model, and that model is as follows: I am not proposing an amorphous body but the body that saved us in the 1990s. That is the State Defense Committee. I suggested two people for this body to the President of the country. I do not know their opinion, they may very well refuse. I have proposed Ruben Vardanyan and Samuel Babayan. Why ask questions? Mr. President, if this model does not work, I may cause pain to someone for the first time in my life: submit your resignation, Mr. President, or hold your confidence referendum. If the people do not trust you, then you will leave. This does not mean that if you resign, Arthur Tovmasyan will be the acting President of Artsakh. If the people do not trust you, then I will also leave.'
