Video: Nearly 500 Thousand People Affected by Floods in Northeast India

At least 496,000 people have been affected by flooding in the northeastern state of Assam, India, where heavy rainfall continues unabated.

According to a public announcement from Assam's Disaster Management Authority, 1,366 villages have been inundated, and over 14,000 hectares of agricultural land have been submerged. Approximately 350,000 livestock have also found themselves in the flooded areas.

At least one person has died as a result of the floods. In the past 24 hours, floods have breached 10 embankments and damaged another three.

Local authorities have set up 83 temporary shelter camps and 79 aid distribution points in the 11 affected districts.
