New Details on the Events in Azerbaijan's Soyudlu Village
Milli Mejlis member Elman Nasirov stated that the incident in the Soyudlu village of the Gadabayi region of Azerbaijan was not spontaneous. “Two weeks ago, two individuals arrived from Russia, who collected funds for these events. The names of the former head of the Gadabayi executive authority Saleh Rustamli and former MP Nazim Baydamirli are also mentioned,” Nasirov said during today’s session of the Milli Mejlis while discussing the recent events in Soyudlu village.
“Many are joining this process without delving into its essence. The Azerbaijani police have fulfilled their duty. At this moment, one police officer has exceeded his official powers, and he will be punished. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has organized an inspection regarding this matter and sent its employees to Soyudlu. The state is using all its resources to demonstrate the essence of this event,” he added. Earlier, it was reported that police had beaten elderly residents of Soyudlu village in the Gadabeki region of Azerbaijan who were protesting against the construction of an artificial lake in the village. During the dispersal of the protesters, police employed batons against the elderly, who were forced to defend themselves with stones.
