Azerbaijan is transforming the St. Ascension Church in Berdzor into a mosque. This was reported by the State Service for the Protection of Historical Environment of the Republic of Artsakh, stating: “Azerbaijan is transforming the St. Ascension Church in Berdzor into a mosque. This is a rewriting of history, the destruction of cultural identity, religious intolerance, and falsification.”
The St. Ascension Church in Berdzor was established at the initiative of the first head of the Kashatagh regional administration, Aleksan Hakobyan. Construction was completed in 1998, and the cross atop the dome was consecrated on May 31, 1998. The architect of the church is Hrachya Gasparyan.
