The Situation in the Lachin Corridor Poses a Risk of Ethnic Cleansing, Says George Lukaydes
The blockade of the Lachin Corridor endangers the lives of thousands, forcing them to live under severe shortages of food, medicine, and fuel, which poses a risk of ethnic cleansing. This was emphasized by Cypriot MP George Lukaydes during a discussion on ensuring free and safe movement through the Lachin Corridor at the summer session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
“The Azerbaijani leadership must acknowledge the humanitarian consequences of the blockade of the Lachin Corridor and the serious violations of human rights,” said the MP, calling for full adherence to the provisions of the trilateral statement from November 9, 2020, and the implementation of decisions from the International Court of Justice and the European Court of Human Rights.
According to Lukaydes, confidence-building measures are necessary, as well as clear initiatives, including within the framework of the Council of Europe.
