Shoigu Announces Creation of Reserve Army in Russia

The Russian Ministry of Defense is preparing to "complete the formation of the reserve army" by the end of June, announced Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting with Security Council members and Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu.

“We are forming reserves in the composition of the military corps and army. Together with five divisions in the tank units of the 1st and 20th armies: everything is proceeding according to plan, and we will essentially finish the formation of the reserve army by the end of June. In the near future, we will complete the formation of the army corps. More than 60 percent of the five divisions have already been established, referring to both personnel and equipment,” Shoigu stated.

The Russian Defense Minister also added that 3,786 units of equipment have already been supplied for the formation of these units. Shoigu also announced that 114,000 contract military personnel and an additional 52,000 volunteers have been recruited to the Russian army.
