Navasard Kchoyan's Property Case to be Presented to Prosecutor's Office

According to the Joghvorouty daily, the Department for Confiscation of Illegally Acquired Property of the Republic of Armenia’s Prosecutor General's Office is likely to submit a motion to the court regarding the property of the leader of the Ararat Diocese, Archbishop Navasard (Samvel) Kchoyan.

Furthermore, according to our information, the prosecutor's office is currently verifying Kchoyan's clarifications, which apparently have not been considered very convincing. This information has not been commented on by the RA Prosecutor General's Office.

As is known, on January 23 of this year, Archbishop Navasard (Samvel) Kchoyan was summoned to the Department for Confiscation of Illegally Acquired Property. An investigation is underway regarding Kchoyan's property, following which a summary has been prepared; moreover, Navasard Kchoyan's property has been placed under restriction.

The issue at hand is that law enforcement has raised the question of how the cleric, who reportedly has no income, possesses such a large volume of property. The cleric explained that he received it as a donation; however, law enforcement officials informed him that the church states that this donation does not belong to him but rather to the church.

Now, the prosecutor's office is awaiting documents from the cleric that will prove Kchoyan's property is legitimate. It is a fact that he manages the property, whether the donations were made personally to him or to the church.
