ECHR Rejects Request for New Interim Measures Against Azerbaijan

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has rejected Armenia's request for new interim measures against Azerbaijan concerning two Armenian servicemen. This was announced on the Facebook page of Armenia's representative for international legal matters.

“At the same time, the Court noted in its decision that the aforementioned Armenian servicemen are under the protection of the general interim measures applied during the 44-day war in 2020, which extends to all prisoners of war and civilians who are under Azerbaijani control,” the post stated.

It is noteworthy that the Armenian Ministry of Defense reported the disappearance of two servicemen at the border on May 26. It later became known that an armed group of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces had crossed into Armenian territory and abducted servicemen Harutyun Hovakimyan and Karen Ghazaryan. In response, Armenia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on Azerbaijani authorities to release and return the abducted soldiers. On May 27, an Azerbaijani court detained the Armenian servicemen.
