Azerbaijani Citizens Fighting in Extremist Organizations in Syria Arrested
Azerbaijani citizens who participated in illegal armed formations abroad have been arrested. This was reported by the State Security Service of Azerbaijan, stating that members of a group consisting of Azerbaijani citizens, who entered international wanted lists, had acted in groups with the intent to participate in armed confrontations.
These terrorist groups illegally crossed into Syria based on religious hatred, religious radicalism, and religious fanaticism. They were engaged in military exercises conducted in specific camps in the city of Idlib. They underwent training on the use of various types of firearms and participated in battles as part of the illegal armed formation 'Taifatul Mansurah.'
As a result of operational-investigative actions undertaken within the framework of a criminal case, the locations where 13 Azerbaijani citizens, guilty of the aforementioned crimes, had hidden were identified. All their names have been published. Under the legal assistance procedure for international wanted persons, they have been arrested and transferred to Azerbaijan. These individuals are facing criminal liability as suspects. By court order, they have been placed under preventive detention.
