WWF Recognized as Undesirable Organization in Russia

Russia has designated the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), labeled a foreign agent, as an undesirable organization. This information was reported by RBC.

According to Russia's Attorney General's Office, the WWF uses environmental activities to implement projects that create threats to economic security.

“WWF is engaged in actions aimed at obstructing the political course of the country regarding industrial development in the Arctic, the natural resource management of Arctic territories, and the formulation and legitimization of restrictions, which could serve as a basis for relocating the Northern Sea Route towards the United States' exclusive economic zone,” stated the Attorney General's Office.

It is worth noting that WWF was recognized as a foreign agent in Russia back in March. According to agency data, the foundation has established a “network of controlled non-commercial organizations to gather information about the environment in the context of large industrial complexes,” as well as preparing “trend assessments aimed at limiting Russia’s economic development.”

Additionally, the foundation has provided material and methodological support to organizations listed in the foreign agents register, whose members have been held accountable for participating in unsanctioned actions, “which indicates interference in Russia's internal affairs.”
