Deputy Vigen Khachatryan Passes Away at Age 72

Deputy Vigen Khachatryan has passed away at the age of 72 due to a heart attack. He was transported to the hospital in serious condition, but efforts to save his life were unsuccessful.

Biography of Vigen Khachatryan
Born on July 7, 1951, in Ijevan, he graduated from the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute with a degree in technical cybernetics in 1973 and worked as an electrical engineer.

From 1974 to 1976, he served as the head of the organization department of the Lenin district committee of the Komsomol in Yerevan, later becoming the second and then the first secretary of the Komsomol. From 1976 to 1984, he was the first secretary of the Yerevan city committee of the Komsomol. He worked as the secretary of the Party Committee of the “Hayelektramechna” factory from 1984 to 1986, and as an inspector of the composition department of the Central Committee from 1986 to 1988. He served as the first secretary of the Gugark district committee of the Communist Party from 1988 to 1990.

From 1996 to 1997, he was the Deputy Mayor of Yerevan. He served as the Governor of Lori Province from April to November 1997. Between 2007 and 2008, he was the deputy director of “Mika Corporation” LLC, and from 2008 to 2010, he was the president of the “Mika” NGO. He was the director of “Unicorn Trade” LLC from 2010 to 2017.

He served as a member of the Supreme Council of Armenia from 1990 to 1995 and was the secretary of its standing committee on mandate and ethics. He was a member of the Constitutional Committee from 1994 to 1995 and part of the parliamentary group “Liberal Democrats.” He was a Deputy of the National Assembly of Armenia from 1995 to 1999, serving as the deputy chair of the Standing Committee on State-Legal Affairs from July 1995 to November 1997 and chairing the same committee from November 1997 to February 1998. From February to May 1999, he was a member of the standing committee on financial, budgetary and economic issues of the National Assembly.

He was elected as a Deputy of the National Assembly on June 20, 2021, as part of the nationwide electoral list of the “Civil Contract” party. He was married and had two children.
