Blocking of the Lachin Corridor Must End: It Is Illegal, Says Luazon

The blocking of the Lachin Corridor is illegal and must cease. This was stated by Nathalie Louazon, head of the Security and Defense Subcommittee of the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, reaffirming the European Parliament’s position on the issue of the blockade.

“We wanted to assure ourselves and assess the situation, as well as to see how the European Union’s civilian mission, which has been operating along the border for four months, is working. Yesterday we met with officials in Yerevan, including Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and other high-ranking officials. Today we were in Goris, where we met with the Governor of Syunik, the Mayor of Goris, and discussed the 44-day war and the blockade of the Lachin Corridor with residents of Artsakh located in Armenia.

We also approached the entrance to the Lachin Corridor and saw with our own eyes the complete and illegal blockade by Azerbaijan. We heard about the increasing number of armed incidents and the intrusion into the sovereign territory of Armenia. We received information about the Eraskh incident, where civilians were targeted. We also heard about an incident near the entrance to the Lachin Corridor, where Azerbaijanis attempted to raise a flag. I would like to send a strong message: no matter how committed Armenia is to peace, Azerbaijan must provide evidence that it is also committed to peace.

The European Union is making efforts to facilitate connections between the leaderships of Armenia and Azerbaijan,” Louazon said.

According to her, the European Union is working to reduce tensions, and the presence of the EU mission in Armenia should contribute to such a reduction in tensions.
