Azerbaijan Must Prove It Seeks Peace, Says European Official

Azerbaijan is required to provide evidence that it seeks peace. This statement was made by Nathalie Louazono, Chair of the European Parliament's Subcommittee on Security and Defense, during a press conference held in Yerevan.

She noted that the EU is making efforts to facilitate communication between the leadership of Armenia and Azerbaijan. “The last such communication took place in Chișinău, with the participation of the EU President, the President of France, and the Chancellor of Germany. We are working to reduce tensions, and the EU mission in Armenia should contribute to that,” Louazono said, adding that it is time to establish sustainable peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“As you know, it only takes one country to start a war, but it takes the goodwill of both countries to stop it,” she remarked. Louazono also reaffirmed the European Parliament's position that the blockade of the Lachin corridor is illegal and must be lifted. “The rights and wellbeing of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh should be adequately protected. And Armenia's sovereignty must be respected,” she emphasized.
