What the United States Expects from China: Blinken

The United States expects China's cooperation in pressuring North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to abandon missile tests and come to the negotiating table to resolve the nuclear issue. This was stated by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken in an interview with CBS.

At the same time, he noted that no commitments have been received from Beijing regarding this matter. “But I believe that China understands that the most destabilizing actor in this region is Kim Jong Un, with his multiple missile tests and potentially even a seventh nuclear test,” Blinken said. “And here is what I’ve told our Chinese partners: We want them to cooperate in trying to get Kim Jong Un to abandon all these missile tests and come to the table to negotiate the nuclear issue and the missile issue. But if they are unable or unwilling to use their influence on North Korea, then we need to continue to take steps with Korea and Japan to protect ourselves and protect our allies,” the Secretary of State added.

He also mentioned that these steps are not aimed against China, including increasing the number of defensive measures.
